Creation of the company Microcity SA

To support the creation and development of innovative firms and provide services that facilitate the transfer of technological solutions and collaboration between companies, the decision to transform Neode SA into Microcity SA was adopted in an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders on 9 November 2018. The new structure, which is well rooted in the canton, with sites in Neuchâtel and La Chaux-de-Fonds, will be operational from 1 January 2019.

The general meeting of shareholders unanimously voted for the increase in share capital from 500,000 to 1 million Swiss francs, heralding the new dimension of Microcity SA, which will replace Neode SA. In addition to larger stakes being held by Neode’s long-standing shareholders (CSEL, HE-ARC, UniNE, BCN, CNCI, AIP, the Swiss state and the main municipalities), two new shareholders have joined the company’s share capital: EPFL (the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne) and FSRM (a Swiss foundation for research in microtechnology).
In line with the Swiss State Council’s proposal, the meeting was also the opportunity to elect the new chair of the board of directors: Caroline Heid, who will succeed Nicolas Wavre. The latter was warmly thanked for his unfailing dedication over many years, during which the start-up incubator has developed considerably. Indeed, in its fifteen years of existence, Neode has helped create and develop more than fifty new firms operating in the canton of Neuchâtel.

The general meeting of shareholders confirmed that the other members of the board of directors would remain in their roles. It also voted to set up an advisory strategic council that represents the innovation hub’s players and shareholders.

New programmes and intensification of operations in the first half of 2019

Over the year 2019, Microcity SA will focus on implementing a new support and innovation initiative in the form of three programmes :

  • A programme for supporting start-ups and maintaining Neode’s services ;
  • A programme for supporting innovation, designed for the local region’s SMEs ;
  • A programme for welcoming large international firms, as part of its affiliation with Switzerland Innovation.

These aims will be achieved through close cooperation with all players in the innovation hub, through bolstering human resources in Microcity SA, and through increasing its surface area in Pierre-à-Mazel 39 by 1,000m2 in April 2019, all under the responsibility of Sandy Wetzel, the current director of Neode SA. The creation of a new communication platform will help promote the expertise and numerous achievements of the Microcity innovation hub and all its players.
